Our programs ignite, empower and activate change
ROOT THE
POWER
youth-led
civic engagement
Root the Power is a group of young people trying to motivate others to take a part in registering to vote, hitting the voting polls, being active members in elections and dialoguing with the people and elected officials.
We choose to use our voices and connect with people around us to strive for a great future.
CAMP DESTINATION INNOVATION
ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LEADERSHIP development
Camp Destination Innovation’s mission is to facilitate pathways for marginalized youth to achieve economic success as well as creating impactful and forward-thinking innovations in support of the Wichita community. According to the Chung Report, Wichita is challenged in maintaining human capital. Bright, young talent are leaving at alarming rates. Meanwhile, income inequality in Wichita continues to rise. Our programs aim to address these issues. Our summer camp is the only summer camp in Wichita that focuses solely on entrepreneurship and caters to a diverse, underserved demographic to create a more inclusive and producing economy.
PROGENY
JUVENILE JUSTICE
REFORM
Progeny is a youth/adult partnership focused on reimagining the
juvenile justice system and reinvestment into
community-based alternatives.
Our vision is to transform the juvenile justice system in Kansas by closing the remaining state youth prison and shifting power to the communities most impacted by these systems through investment in programs that build a healthier Kansas
for youth development.
CURE
VIOLENCE
PROJECT WE DESERVE
The Cure Violence Intervention Program, implemented through a partnership between Destination Innovation and Wichita State University, aims to combat global violence using public health strategies centered on disease control and behavior change. This approach addresses violence as a public health issue and emphasizes community engagement through effective organizing frameworks. Gun violence has surged in Wichita, particularly affecting youth, with homicides and injuries on the rise. The Cure Violence Model deploys violence interrupters who mediate conflicts and promote community re-engagement to prevent violence escalation. Demonstrating significant success globally, this model has reduced gun violence by 40-70% in many cities, showcasing its effectiveness in changing behavioral norms and improving community relations. Cure Violence in Wichita, will help enable comprehensive community engagement efforts that address trauma, rebuild trust, and foster lasting safety and unity.
